Moto Droid’s 2.1 Update Coming Soon
Feb 9th, 2010 by hrrf

Cool.

But I wont’ have dancing wallpaper:

I’m still learning how to use the dang thing. I’ve gotten pretty handy with it, but there’s still plenty of “WTF” moments that occur.

So Tired of Avocado
Feb 9th, 2010 by hrrf

Avocados are healthy – avocado.org doesn’t mind telling you so.

Anna had a soiree at the house recently, and she bought a Costco sized pack of Wholly Guacamole.

One of the ladies who came to said soiree brought Guacamole (non Wholly).

Owen loves avocados. We’ll just slice up chunks and he’ll pick them up and slam ‘em down about as fast as we can get them in his cone of vision.

Avocados were recently $0.77 apiece at our local grocer – and even more recently $0.39 apiece. Being tired of eating avocado, but having a son that loves it, I did what made sense – I bought ten of them. Avocado as far as the eye can see, including leftover guacamole that I’m quite sick of eating.

I shouldn’t complain. Avocados in other places are much more expensive than they are here. And they’re incredibly healthy:

High avocado intake has been shown to have an effect on blood serum cholesterol levels. Specifically, after a seven-day diet rich in avocados, hypercholesterolemia patients showed a 17% decrease in total serum cholesterol levels. These subjects also showed a 22% decrease in both LDL (bad cholesterol) and triglyceride levels and 11% increase in HDL (good cholesterol) levels.

If only I thought my cholesterol was a problem. My blood pressure needs fixin’, not my cholesterols!

Micro, part 2
Feb 6th, 2010 by hrrf

The microwave that died yesterday? I plugged it back in on a whim, and it worked fine. Color me confused. Maybe it just needed to rest.

In the meantime I had purchased another microwave using the internet that was Consumer Reports top rated microwave. With a coupon and their sale price at the time, it was about $230.

But, because our old microwave appears to work and was just tired, I had to cancel the order. It would’ve been nice, but we could use that cash for other fun things.

Micro
Feb 4th, 2010 by hrrf

Last night our microwave was all like “fzzt”.

So, now we’re in the market for a new microwave! This gives me an opportunity to do something I’ve wanted to do for a while, which is install an actual cooking fan/range vent to the outside of the house. Unfortunately, it’s a race condition – we probably need a microwave soonest, since it gets used daily for things such as, but not limited to: warming up the boy’s food.

Here’s the thing, I know nothing about microwaves, other than the tech used. Now I must learn.

So I Like Pizza
Feb 4th, 2010 by hrrf

I wonder if I can find an old Weber on craigslist or something?

This guy made a pizza oven out of an old Weber. I need this to go with my perfect crust, until I can dig into my backyard and make my own brick oven!

Virginia Senate bills say no to requiring health insurance – washingtonpost.com.

And Virginia is a Democratic state, now.  Good for them for flexing their states’ rights, although I have no hope that Washington is even listening to what states want anymore, or even really paying attention to the Constitution (but really, nobody has for a long time!):

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

Spatchcock
Feb 2nd, 2010 by hrrf

We had cornish game hens on Sunday.

I kind of knew how to spatchcock, but wasn’t quite sure, so I looked it up on youtube. I found this result.

While very interested in this cooking method, it wasn’t quite what I was looking for. I did check out a few of her other methods before finally realizing that her cooking style wasn’t suited for the tools I have.

Instead, I found a video of some really gay guys teaching me how to spatchcock. They had really good enunciation on the word “spatchcock” – or at least I imagined it.

What a Surprise!

Antioxidants arent always good for you and can impair muscle function, study shows.

Isn’t there a law somewhere that says that – when science claims something is good for your health, it will inevitably be proven unhealthy in a matter of time?
