Birefringence

Who knew?

Whenever I see prism like colors on meat, that meat goes into the trash, even if it passes the smell test. Something about animal flesh turning colors that look the same as a shimmery oil puddle is off-putting.

Our neighbors gave us half of a Honeybaked ham recently. I ate some just about every day until it started looking like me lucky charms. Turns out we could’ve put it in a casserole or something, and likely survived.

Brees and Son

I don’t know why this never got published. Pushing it through now!

This made me pretty happy when I watched it:

For multiple reasons. One, I have a similarly aged son, and if I ever accomplished anything like that, you’re damn right I’d have him there with me and be tearing up. Two, the kid isn’t paying the least bit of attention to his dad, and instead to the commotion and confetti.

So it isn’t just that I’m boring, or Drew is boring, it’s just that, well – everything else is more interesting to babies.

Spatchcock
Feb 2nd, 2010 by hrrf

We had cornish game hens on Sunday.

I kind of knew how to spatchcock, but wasn’t quite sure, so I looked it up on youtube. I found this result.

While very interested in this cooking method, it wasn’t quite what I was looking for. I did check out a few of her other methods before finally realizing that her cooking style wasn’t suited for the tools I have.

Instead, I found a video of some really gay guys teaching me how to spatchcock. They had really good enunciation on the word “spatchcock” – or at least I imagined it.

Android SDK

I downloaded the Android Software Development Kit.

So far I’ve only tinkered with your standard “Hello World” program. It seems pretty neat. It’s Java based, which I know, and uses a lot of XML for layout and data management, which is nice. I have a few ideas for apps – and unlike on the Jesus Phone, I can actually write the apps for this platform without having to buy a Mac.

I have this dream of writing a clone of Reiner Knizia’s Kingdoms, as I think it would work well on mobile devices. Of course I also thought this game would do well on Xbox Live, but I never bothered finishing that project either. Maybe this will be the one that breaks the streak!

‘Avatar’ replaces ‘Titanic’ in record books

‘Avatar’ replaces ‘Titanic’ in record books.

Man, I remember when Titanic displaced Star Wars.  I guess the difference this time is that I liked Avatar, so I don’t mind.

Weird that Cameron has two of the top three grossing movies of all time.
