We watched The Proposal
last night, bringing our total of movies watched to three in the past nine and a half months. Seeing as how the other two movies were Star Trek
and Avatar, I was due for a chick flick.
It wasn’t horrible, and had lots of awkward, and Sandra Bullock got naked, kind of.
Since this movie has been out for a long time, I’m going to assume everybody else has seen it and spoil the crap out of it.
If I were a feminist, and I totally am, this movie would upset me greatly. The strong, go-getter, female executive is reduced to a crying, emotional, needy person at the end of the movie. Everybody knows that women don’t need men, and that all heterosexual relationships are unnecessary. She was a strong willed successful woman. Clearly she didn’t need a man, especially a secretly wealthy Alaskan millionaire who is also a great author. Real women have no need for such weak things as men. Jeez.
All kidding aside, if you’d like a trip into some seriously strong and skewed opinion about relationships and feminists who aren’t really sure what they’re, um, fighting for anymore, you should read the link above. It’s fairly graphic and probably requires at least a cocktail or two in you so you can truly get its meaning.
