Holy Crap, It Works
Feb 19th, 2008 by hrrf

Wow.  So that was kind of a debacle.  I think most everything should work as it did before – if it doesn’t, tell me so that I can actively ignore it.

Everything should be much faster now.  And I should spend a lot less time deleting spam comments, as well!

Congrats.  It’s going to be spotty today and over the weekend until I get everything migrated.

Changing Hosts
Feb 5th, 2008 by hrrf

So I think I’m going to be changing hosts in the next few days, probably this weekend.  The free hosting is nice, but it’s obvious that this machine is running on its last legs. I can get better performance, a more reliable host, a more secure host, and a cool hrrf.com email address for less than it would cost me to re-register my domain and have it hosted for free.

The new place insists it’ll be easy and painless to transfer – I don’t believe them.

I thought I might use this machine for image hosting, but turns out I don’t need to.  In five or so years, I’ve only amassed 3.6 gigs of images, and the new host allows for 120gb of space.  So it looks like I can break completely from the machine.

Sweet!

Canada, eh?

I like to sell my old video games on Ebay.  I get more money back from them than I would if I sold them at Gamestop or something, and it’s generally hassle free because the games fit in USPS Priority Mail envelopes.

I don’t like dealing with the people, though.  Ebay is pretty good about giving you a means to list shipping options and estimated costs, but people always seem to ignore it and instead e-mail me with awesome two word e-mails:  “whats shipping”.  And I want to go into a description of what shipping actually is, but instead like a simp I look it up and answer them, or refer them to the auction again and say “read the page, the information is there.”

This time, when I listed my games I made sure to have all the different options for shipping listed right there where they could be seen.  I included all shipping options in the listing description, thinking that would help.  No luck.

And, most of these people, they’re Canadian.  So through Ebay I have learned that Canadians can’t read.

Actually, This Could Fix It

Make every high school kid take a personal finance class.  And further, I’d make them take an economics class as well, or at least make them read this book.
